Nov 4. This Weekend I Watch: American Son

The movie "American Son" is an Netflix Original, and I think can only be found on there. But that's neither here nor there. In the movie there's a case of a missing teenage boy, the son in African American Kendra Ellis Connor and white husband Scott Connor. At the beginning alone Kendra was not getting information from Officer Paul Larkin played by Jeremy Jordan on the whereabouts of her son. Later when her husband arrived the officer was mislead by his appearance thinking that he was the Lieutenant saying words like "ghetto" and "b*^#%." He later realized his mistakes but had already also told him information that he had told Kendra he did not know. During the movie I noticed that there was prejudice against Mrs.Connor and her son , the officer had been asking if the missing boy had tattoos, street names and body scars. But after Mr.Connor had arrived there were no more questions like that, it was evident that Officer Larkin had respected Mr.Connor more because he was a white male in law enforcement. As a plot twist the lieutenant was an African-American older man, when he arrived there was an incident without who had authority with Scott, I think he was thrown of that the lieutenant was African-American and felt like he was entitled for answers using aggressive tone. After about an hour Lieutenant Stokes comes back to the waiting room the two anxious parents sat and told them that the bumper sticker on their son's car caused the car to be pulled over, one of the three black males tried to flee and the police officer opened fire. The bullet went astray striking Jamal in the head resulting in his death. As expect the parents broke down and blamed themselves for his death. Throughout the movie there was racial profiling and stereotypes shown from both the white law enforcers both unintentional but still present. The movie ended shortly after the audience received the unfortunate news.
